"Momma Said There'd Be Days Like This..."

Poppyseed's First Dentist Appointment

Oy! You'd think I'd get better at this stuff with each subsequent child. Supermommy still didn't remember the digital camera to document the event. I did remember "Blankie" (her lovie), but that didn't seem to help with the traumatic announcement.

Though there was no evidence of visual decay, Dr. H declared that the thumbsucking must stop immediately. Poppyseed heard this...and dissolved into heaving sobs.
"I can't suck my Thumbie? I going to miss her!"

All day little Poppyseed's thumb would inch towards her mouth...and she would look at it and reply,
"I not sucking my Thumbie anymore 'cause...'cause...{sob}...'cause I not suck her anymore."

CarTalk with Beernut

After what must have been a frustrating day in Kindergarten, Beernut heaved himself into his carseat (quite a feat for a kid who barely weighs 41 pounds)and exclaimed,
"Mom, you shouldn't have wished for me. You wasted your wish."

And finally...

"Provided By Management For Your Safety"

A toilet seat cover to some.

But after a long day, a life saver to me.

Point the first: What a sweetly sad rendition of Poppyseed and her Thumbie. This is one of the reasons that I love being around kids. What adult would think of missing a part of you that is still there? I especially like that there was no confabulation. She didn't make up a story to explain why she couldn't do it, didn't feel a need for concrete explanation. She just knew she couldn't do it anymore. Some people could benefit from that kind of thinking.

Point the second: When I first read this through, I thought that Beernut meant you had wished he had a good day at Kindergarten. That's not what he meant, was it? What did you reply?Wait, I don't understand.

Point the third: Also when I first read this through, I thought you mispelled wasted. I read that to myself as wah-stid (like water, but with an s in the middle and a d instead of an r), but when I tried to figure out how to spell it, I realized the problem was not with the spelling but with my brain.

Point the fourth:I don't get how that was a lifesaver.

Here endeth the comment.

Responding to the first comment -- so sad in real life too! And gosh darn-it, she is stubborn that she has actually ceased to suck the aforementioned Thumbie. I have caught her licking it a couple of times.
"I not suck my Thumbie. I just tasting her."

Responding to the second comment -- I have always told Beernut that I wanted to be a mom more than anything and that I used to wish for him. After one of his many difficult days, he decided this week that I must have wasted my wish.

Responding to the third comment -- I can't really help you here.

Responding to the final comment -- after a tough Mommy day, I found this so funny that it just put all things into perspective. I could understand if it read "Provided by the management for your protection." Really...is this flimsy paper going to do much in the way of defense or security?? I think not.

Oh, I had to re-read the passage about the safety as well. Now I get it. I'm very concerned about Beernut's comment.

P.S. Poppyseed is adorable -- moreso in person, but adorable nonetheless.
